“Prophets” of the current worldIn the strict sense passed on to us by the Bible a prophet is someone who “talks to us on behalf of God”, who brings us His message. There's no doubt that in this sense the “one and only great prophet” is Jesus, the very Word of God who became Man and who left us His message. It is He who “taught” authoritatively, it is He who talked about the “new law” based on Love. We must watch out for “false prophets”, those whom we might follow but who propose a fake happiness instead of a true one, who move us away from real truth, and move away from us the words Jesus Himself passes on to us with “authority”.When talking of prophets I don't refer to whom often are mistaken for such referring to those who are able to “predict” what is going to happen, but to the strict sense passed on to us by the Bible referring to someone who “talks to us on behalf of God”, who brings us His message. There's no doubt that in this sense the “one and only great prophet” is Jesus, the very Word of God who became Man and who left us His message. It is He who “taught” authoritatively, it is He who talked about the “new law” based on Love. But we also know that there are “false” prophets in the world who with their preaching try to persuade us that such and such is the best and true way. We should wonder who is the “prophet” in our lives, the one who talks to us and whom we follow so he can make us reach “Happiness”, which for those of us who believe is reaching God Himself. But we know there are many prophets who cheat on us, who try to talk “authoritatively” to us in order to persuade us about what is really prioritary and important. Some people are carried away and pay attention to everything that is written or shows up on TV, or because “someone rich and famous” says so, therefore this “fame” turns whatever he says almost into “the word of God”. Some people believe in everything said by Science, even when referring to the realm of private matters, thinking that we should only be ruled by scientific thoughts. For others the “prophet” to be followed is fashion, since it is what matters and in short is what has “the truth”, since it is what “everyone uses” or “everyone does”. Even for others the “prophet” will be an ideology, a political movement, etc. Maybe following some prophets is not bad at all as long as what they pass on does not contradict what the great Prophet Jesus teaches us, who in the Gospel, the Good News, has shown us the way of true happiness. However, we must watch out for “false prophets”, those whom we might follow but who propose a fake happiness instead of a true one, who move us away from real truth, and move away from us the words Jesus Himself passes on to us with “authority”. We need prophets who talk to us about “substance”, who don't try to persuade us that true happiness can be found in passing attitudes, in fleeting happiness which does not remain.
