“Orphans of living parents”I heard this expression a long time ago, in first place it refers to the large number of children and youths whose parents are not deceased but who for different reasons cannot be there, so they need someone who “takes charge” in their place. But there also are those who live as “orphans” because they have no ideals, who live an “empty” life, who just “walk through life” without any goal. This is no more, no less than living without hope, and thus I call it “being an orphan” since one looks backward and there seems to be no history, and by looking forward one just sees “up to there”, so no sense is seen in why or for whom to live.I heard this expression a long time ago, in first place it refers to the large number of children and youths whose parents are not deceased but who for different reasons cannot be there, so they need someone who “takes charge” in their place. Fortunately there are many people who accomplish this mission, and although it certainly is not the same, at least they assist these children in their growth and their schooling so they are conducted by adults, since this is the parent's great mission, “escorting their children in their growth”. Thus, many groups are formed, families who devote themselves to avoid the drifting of many “children as if they were their own” who have no one who escorts them, or Institutions (a clear example is the Felices los Niños Foundation), and many others who escort those who assist either with their contribution or with their dedication. But there also are those who live as “orphans” because they have no ideals, who live an “empty” life, who just “walk through life” without any goal. Maybe the hardest task in education and schooling today is trying to show the human being the true sense of life, that living “for something” and “for someone” is important. Running into so many people who make us realize their lives are “drifting” with neither a reference nor a horizon is very hard. This may happen to a large number of children who have no role model, no example they can lean on, someone who supports them. Making our way through life makes sense by the goals we set us, while there's no doubt that walking for the sake of walking, living for the sake of living does not lead to full happiness, since it is well known that what is just for a while, irremediably will bring much insatisfaction. This is no more, no less than living without hope, and thus I call it “being an orphan” since one looks backward and there seems to be no history, and by looking forward one just sees “up to there”, so no sense is seen in why or for whom to live. A person who does not believe, who could not find in God this Someone for whom overcoming difficulties is worthwhile and who aids in uncovering the sense of life without staying irremediably with what is seen, a person who watches how every effort made some day will fall into oblivion and who does not contribute “in any way” with no history and no future: I wonder many times how such a person manages in order to experience any encouragement in life There's no doubt that for many being “orphans” is very hard, but it is much harder being an orphan knowing there is a Father, but maybe they didn't even realize they have got Him very much closer than they suppose.
