"The profound reason for our hope is the risen Jesus"

Father Oscar proposed to follow the "Jesus model". He also said that believers need to concretize this resurrection. He remarked that election time also generates new hope. "Beyond the difficulties of the last years, this is a moment of hope" he reflected.

Buenos Aires, Sunday, April 27, 2003.- Father Oscar Pezzarini, the General Commissioner of the Work of Don Orione, in charge of the weekly comment in "La Manga", Fr. Julio Grassi's radio program (Radio Rivadavia -AM 630 kHz- Sundays from 2 to 5 a.m.), made an appeal to follow "the Jesus model" because this "is a time to discern the meaning of His message nowadays" since "we need to use this search as a starting point to try to change whatever depends on each of us."

"We are celebrating a special time since a week ago we began on Easter. It is, however, also a special time from a civic point of view."

"For those of us who are believers, who believe in the risen Jesus, the virtue of hope derives from each celebration of His resurrection. Each year this hope is new and profound."

"The time of election, of change or of involvement in a country's life also generate a new hope. Beyond the difficulties experienced in the last years, and also beyond skepticism and a certain reluctance in participation, it does not cease to be a moment of hope."

"We believers need to know and remember that the profound reason for our hope is the risen Jesus. Easter Sunday is over, now we must ask ourselves what happened, and ask ourselves what happened with our responsibility of being symbols and witnesses of this resurrection. We need to dig in on this, to change our path or our mentality, the way we believe, live, or love."

"We must concretize this resurrection in Jesus in which we believe. As believers, it is the foundation of our faith. It must lead us to fulfill our own personal and social life and to reflect which are the values which are being put into action."

"What kind of situations are there which have nothing to do with what Jesus proposes, and hence I must try to change? asked Father Oscar. "This is the time to discern the meaning of Jesus' messages in our days."

"Starting with the search for discernment we need to try to change whatever depends on us. Whatever sets us afar from Jesus or causes a society to draw away from their deepest values. We must ask us what happens in our life so we can follow the "Jesus model", the one we believe in since his own resurrection."

"After intending to do all this, it is necessary to try to do it through a life based on resurrection and to start to show facts which support the theory we believe in. This change of gestures, attitudes, and decisions after resurrection is called the new life. It means showing the presence of the risen Jesus in the midst of the world through concrete works."

"We need to be participants in everything which concerns us. Therefore, today, on election day we have to partake with responsibility, thinking about our convictions and our values, trying to elect those who respect these convictions and values", reflected Father Oscar Pezzarini on the end.
