Motherly Glance and Motherly Heart

It is not easy to understand how it comes some women think of motherhood as a “burden”, and that they cannot find in this marvelous gift the most important reason for full fulfillment. Motherly glance and motherly heart are attitudes we and many others need dearly in life, sometimes I wonder if we wouldn't be able to overcome injustice and pain, therefore avoiding much sorrow if many of us could fill ourselves with these virtues. Being a mother is a wonderful gift God granted Woman on earth, but it needs full acceptance and openness of heart, and a capability of loving which often brings her suffering and sorrow, the understanding that as years goes by and wrinkles come, it is not just a sign of “aging” but all of these “marcs” show total and full dedication to their children.

On this third Sunday in October Argentina celebrates Mother's Day, and like every year it is an occasion for refering once again in our customary reflections to this wonderful “gift” God gave Woman.

It is not easy to understand how it comes some women think of motherhood as a “burden”, and that they cannot find in this marvelous gift the most important reason for full fulfillment.

Although we have said more than once that the “gift” of motherhood is not only warranted by the fact of bearing children, it is true that Woman has indeed special conditions that make her exercise motherhood in every aspect of her life through the gifts granted to her.

A motherly woman has a special glance, particularly for those of her children who need it mostly, whe knows of someone who is in need of some special assistance, a distinctive glance, or particular understanding. The eyes of a mother will always be attentive in order to see that nothing happens to their children, and that they don't lack anything.

A motherly woman has an infinitely wide heart which can comprise all of her children and which is even able of dedication and thought towards many others who may need a “motherly heart”, she is always ready to suffer, to tremble and to stir just at the thought of some child which stands aloof or which is indifferent to her. Despite of its attitudes she will always think “some day he or sche will change”, or he or she will overcome former errors.

I wish all mothers a happy day, those who have given life by bearing children as well as those who accomplish this “unbounded” mission with an enormous heart and a deep and gentle glance which allows many people to find comfort, encouragement and stimulation while not being near to “their mother”.
