Do to others...

...what you would have them do to you. This “golden rule” which Jesus left us in the Gospel and which is so simple to write and to pronounce is the life rule which, beyond any religion, could make any human being live his life in a full and happy way. When Jesus referred to this He is both very clear and demanding, since He will talk about being “merciful”, about “not judging in order not to be judged”, about “not condemning in order not to be condemned”, about “forgiving in order to be forgiven”, about “giving in order to receive”. How many times we turn ourselves into judges of others, condemning simply by what we have heard or what seems to us, we feel as if we “owned” forgiveness, thus we are not able to forgive, we lock into our own selfishness and do not see the need of those around us. When being ourselves in the situation of these “others”, when it is us who don't get what we were not able of giving, it's almost sure we will realize what we were not being given and will even demand different attitudes from others. Understanding, forgiving, giving, doing to another human being what we would love was done to us, are just simple and even “logical” attitudes which would doubtlessly make us live a much happier life if we were able of putting them into practice.

...what you would have them do to you. This “golden rule” which Jesus left us in the Gospel and which is so simple to write and to pronounce is the life rule which, beyond any religion, could make any human being live his life in a full and happy way.

I propose giving a sincere thought on how many things could improve in our lives if we could act accordingly. Reflect about how many times we treat others in a way which we surely wouldn't like being treated ourselves.

There is no doubt that many things would change in a family if the husband had the gestures with his wife he demands for himself, or if the children who frequently challenge their parents who don't listen to them or who “don't trust them” would be able of opening up to them trusting in that they are always looking after their good. Or if parents, who often demand patience and comprehention, had these with their children.

At an institutional level, if leaders who are set back by being addressed in a rather “insulting” way with words or gestures “out of place” wouldn't themselves apply these same attitudes with others, how many difficulties could be avoided.

When noticing some other's error we should put us in the other person's place, and above all realizing our own errors and the same need of forgiveness and understanding by others, instead of stating a judgement and a hasty condemnation, many things in our lives would change.

Understanding, forgiving, giving, doing to another human being what we would love was done to us, are just simple and even “logical” attitudes which would doubtlessly make us live a much happier life if we were able of putting them into practice.
