We talk about everything, but not...

We are flooded by words, by noises, by opinions, but we hardly ever talk about truly important or essential things in our life. It seems as if we express what we feel deep inside of us this will “move us away” from others, who will look at us as if we were some kind of “odd guy”. If we are asked: “are you Catholic?”, we surely will respond Yes, “but my way”, “but not a saint”, “more or less”, and telling others that we pray, that in the intimacy of our life we ask God to give us strength wouldn't even come to our mind. Many times this is due to our wish of “being equal to others”, or to avoid people looking at us in a certain way. And the same happens to us in other aspects: we believe in Love, but not that much; in Faith as something very important, but up to there; in work, but... Let's also talk about the deepest and the most important things, because it is true that if we don't share what we have in our heart and our soul, we run the risk of leaving them empty.

...about the essential or the deepest things in our lives. It can be verified among human beings that talking about truly deep and important things which make up our lives is hard to us. We are flooded by words, by noises, by opinions, but we hardly ever talk about truly important or essential things in our life.

It also happens to us believers, there are very few instances in which, for example, we talk about God. We discuss many things: pastoral work, organization, external attitudes, methods, etc., but we hardly gather to talk about God in each one's life, and in any case how we can deepen our relation with Him.

We say these are very intimate and personal things, as if they were not a part of our life but rather something very secret, up to the point of being able of splitting it up: on one side is God in whom we believe, and on the other the concrete life.

I think this also happens in other fields, and many people share this thought. Finding a family parent who talks about the love they feel for their children is very unfrequent, and so is the sharing of certain satisfactions they give them.

The same happens often to young people, who almost never share their deep ideals, a book they read which made them feel good, or those things which are the reasons of their existence. However, they will share “in great detail” the last movie they have watched, or the project they are working on, or what they plan to do in the next days in an outing.

It even happens to us priests, who sometimes sermon about many things related to organization, to current difficulties, but we lack digging in at the deep relation of Man with God, or at eternal life or sometimes even at how mercyful God is.

We are full of opinions, of words, but are not always full of The Word. It is hard for us to talk about certain issues, as if we were invaded by some kind of “shame”.

Why does this happen? There may be multiple answers, but it seems to me that one of them is a kind of “slavery ” which makes us depend on “what will they say of me”.
