Love one anotherIn the Gospel, at the time Jesus was almost in death throes at the Garden of Gethsemane, He left us the “great commandment of Love” as a sign of our Faith: “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” When Jesus talks to us about Love He also prompts us to “love your neighbor as you love yourself”, and this would be one of the first questions we should ask ourselves as we watch our attitudes in life: “Would I like that others do to me what I do? Would I like others to talk about me as I talk about other people?” It's both an easy and a difficult “formula”: “Do to others what we would do to ourselves; talk about others us we would talk about us”.In the Gospel, at the time Jesus was almost in death throes at the Garden of Gethsemane, He left us the “great commandment of Love” as a sign of our Faith: “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13,35). When Jesus talks about Love He does so in capital letters, even saying “as I have loved you” and He will also tell us that “in the love to God and to the neighbor the whole Law can be summarized”. When we talk about Love, total, true Love, the one which covers all the most sublime expressions, we refer to a Love as great as the one He had towards us, with total generosity, able to give His life for Man, making Himself one of us. When Jesus talks to us about Love He also prompts us to “love your neighbor as you love yourself”, and this would be one of the first questions we should ask ourselves as we watch our attitudes in life: “Would I like that others do to me what I do? Would I like others to talk about me as I talk about other people?” And in any case do to others what I would have liked others doing to me, and talk about others saying what I would have liked being said about me. Being understanding to others just as I wish others were to me. It's both an easy and a difficult “formula”: “Do to others what we would do to ourselves; talk about others us we would talk about us”. What Jesus will also tell us is “to love as He loved us”. How could that be, how can we reach such an expression of Love. The only way to reach this is by thinking how His Love toward Man was. His Love towards Man was a Love of complete “generosity”, He gave everything without expecting anything in exchange, such is the true Love, the one which is given without any interest; even with such devotion and generosity it prompts us to love our very enemies as He did when He even prayed, interceded and forgave those who killed Him. True Love starts at those who surround us but will spread out to all Mankind such as the Lord's did, knowing that when we say our neighbor we refer in first place to the one who is close to us, but also to all Human Beings, because “every man is my brother”. For those who believe in Jesus this is a truth which cannot be put aside. The Lord also left us the “commandment of love” as a concrete sign so others could believe in Him. Others will see us as His disciples insofar as we live this commandment.
