Fatima and its present messageOn May 13 we celebrate the Virgin Mary under the advocation of Our Lady of Fatima, recalling the apparitions of Mary to three children, little shepherds in Fatima, Portugel. Ninety years have gone by since, and beyond the fact that each one is free to believe or not in these apparitions, the message we got is true: the request for Prayer, especially the Rosary, particularly for peace at a time when World War I was ravaging. At Fatima the Virgin just made us all recall that we can't find the way to a happy, peaceful life “away from God” and that the best “method” for reaching the highest ideals must necessarily appeal to Prayer, to a profound dialogue with God who is the One who can grant us what we long for. The “message of Fatima” still is as up-to-date as it was 90 years ago, and this is so because the world keeps on being self-contained today as well as it was yesterday, trying to put God aside, not letting Him take part in our life, and this is the reason for so many conflicts to go on, for so many confrontations and wars to repeat themselves. If we want something to start to change we must seriously take up again Mary's Fatima messages by which she asks us to use the great “force” within our reach, which is Prayer. On May 13 we celebrate the Virgin Mary under the advocation of Our Lady of Fatima, recalling the apparitions of Mary to three children, little shepherds in Fatima, Portugel. Ninety years have gone by since, and beyond the fact that each one is free to believe or not in these apparitions, the message we got is true: the request for Prayer, especially the Rosary, particularly for peace at a time when World War I was ravaging. The message of Fatima is still as up-to-date as real is the fact that the world is still as upheaved as it was 90 years ago, and progress has been made in many aspects as years went by, but the ways which lead us to a life in peace among men are still to be found. Maybe this all happens because we expect to find ways of “peace” leaving aside the One who “is peace” since as a global society we prefer to leave God aside, we put our back on Him, we move our lives further away from Him without realizing that without Him we cannot reach the highest goals set up by Mankind. At Fatima the Virgin just made us all recall that we can't find the way to a happy, peaceful life “away from God” and that the best “method” for reaching the highest ideals must necessarily appeal to Prayer, to a profound dialogue with God who is the One who can grant us what we long for. Much Prayer, Sacrifice and effort is what Mary asked from the little shepherds and through them from all faithful so that war would end and human beings would never try to solve conflicts by this means, however, a short time thereafter we realize that Mankind did not accept this demand. Maybe we who believe may have the first responsibility because we may find it hard to take Prayer seriously as the best means when searching for the many solutions we need. Perhaps we pray, yes, but as a routine, customarily, without being “fully convinced” of the “power” of this Prayer, and when I refer to “power” I'm not talking about the sense of authority, but of reaching by this means whatever we ask for; power in the sense of “actual chance of getting it”.
