About us > What we do
This Foundation was created to help homeless children and street children. No matter their religion, whether they believe in God or not, what counts is our will to help them; to find out what they need and to open our arms and the arms of people at our Foundation to every boy or girl in need.
Our Foundation was born to the challenge of assisting the many homeless children – those who live in the street -, and the many others we call street children – those who work in the street, who beg or wander about and then go back to their homes or the like.
Every poor child has the right to receive education, and the duty to study |
We open our arms at the moment the child is in the street and bring her or him to the homes, workshops, schools, dining halls in each of our institutions; or else we try to help them return to their own homes. While our objective is always to take them back to their family, we sometimes regret to acknowledge that the interval may be a long period, perhaps until they are 21.
What do we want to achieve? We want them to be good men and women, useful to themselves and to others, honest citizens and, if they share our faith, good Christians.
This ideal is sought as an ideal of happiness. For Jesus, the Beatitudes were the ideal for the poor, the sufferer. Jesus said "blessed are the meek for they shall possess the land, blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted, blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice for they shall have their fill".
When considering the Foundation's task, we think that Jesus would have considered children to. So why not include them in the Beatitudes and say: Blessed are the poor children for they shall possess the land. Blessed are the children who mourn for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the children who hunger and thirst after justice for they shall have their fill. Blessed are the children that suffer persecution for justice's sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The ideal is children's happiness. And happiness is essentially education – studying should be children's job. Every homeless or street child, every poor child has the right to receive education, and the duty to study.
There is a road that leads to a child's inner progress: bringing him or her in contact with school, with education. Every rescue, every road to salvation, every approach towards the problem of homeless children, street children and teenage mothers includes education.
