Felices los Niños Day Care CenterFEATURES:Some 120 km (about 75 mi) from Formosa’s capital city lies the Felices los Niños Day Care Center, one of our homes in the country´s heartland. This center, which occupies the building of an old Customs Office, stands almost on the banks of one of the branches of the Pilcomayo River separating Argentina from Paraguay. A group of health and teaching professionals and many volunteers are in charge of the home’s daily activities. Owing to its nearness to Paraguay many of the children attending the home every day come from the neighboring Paraguayan town of Nanagua, just across a pedestrian suspension bridge that spans the river.
The Felices los Niños Home opened on June 28th 2000, and today many activities are being added to provide assistance to children from infants to 20 year olds, of whom 98% have received schooling. Children are given breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack during out-of-school hours. They also get remedial teaching, physical education, and training by participating in various workshops on Bread-making, Vermiculture (which started thanks to the donation of Californian earthworms by the National Institute for Agrotechnology of El Colorado), Sewing, Vegetable Gardening and Flower Growing.
