Barrio Qom Day Care Center

Barrio Qom Day Care Center

FEATURES:

In Derqui, Pilar District, opposite the Cardenal Copello School, stands the Barrio Qom Day Care, belonging to the Felices los Niños Foundation and in operation since February 2000.

Its special feature is that the home is dedicated to the Toba indigenous community; originally from Chaco province, some 32 families settled in Derqui city.

This Day Care Center assists children, women and teenagers who are pregnant or have young babies, old people, disabled children and teenagers from the Toba community (the Qom community in their native language). They are given breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. In the morning, they carry out various activities at the home and in the afternoon they attend school.

To them and their Indian chief it is interesting to participate in cultural exchanges with other communities, especially with schools that invite them to tell about their history and show their skill in making crafts.
