Santa Micaela Day Care Center

Santa Micaela
Santa Micaela

FEATURES:

Santa Micaela Day Care Center was remodeled from an old building that had been donated to Felices los Niños Foundation. It is served by the Order of the Sisters of Adoration, Slaves of the Blessed Sacrament and of Charity.

The special feature of this Day Care Center is that it is devoted to providing assistance to women aged between 19 and 70 who are considered to be at social risk.

The Sisters of Adoration, Slaves of the Blessed Sacrament and of Charity have an arduous task with the rehabilitation program – it is not easy to modify the way of life of women who have become sexual workers for whatever reason. Therefore, the staff of Felices los Niños Foundation, together with the sisters, delivers workshops every Monday to Thursday afternoon. Here women acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out other activities and even to start and implement micro enterprises. For example, these women, most of whom come from Greater Buenos Aires and are head of the family, take Workshops on Dressmaking, Knitting and IT. They take the produce home for their children and themselves. Additionally, many of them attend workshops on basic literacy. Food is present in the form of two afternoon snacks, and they are given a bag with food every week.

A psychologist coordinates work with women, especially as regards the Workshop on Bonds, a reflection group where key aspects such as self-esteem, relationships with children and setting limits are approached. Thanks to all the activities that are carried out at Santa Micaela, there is hope for these women, there is an opportunity of change based on deep spiritual work – together with the sisters' daily prayers – and on training to search for other job options.

Santa Micaela carries out networked actions with other institutions, for example with specialists from Dr. T. Alvarez Hospital and Fecunditas. Talks on prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and substance abuse are essential to complete the rehabilitation cycle towards a truly decent life. The team of psychologists of Nuestra Señora de Lourdes Parish Church contributes with their voluntary work offering one-on-one therapy sessions to Santa Micaela Home women.
