FEATURES:The professionals of the San Roque Mobile Team are street educators who work with children and teenagers between 6 and 18 years old that are wandering about begging or working in the street. This population at risk gets assistance thanks to a cooperation agreement between the Felices los Niños Foundation and T.B.A., a railway concessionaire of the former Sarmiento and Mitre railway companies. Thus, since August 1999 the team members have been working at the Once and Retiro railway terminuses and at some intermediate stations, following the routes and rounds of the minors with the intention of creating a bond of affection with them to win their trust and then be able to refer them to a day care center. The aim is to facilitate their reintegration in society and to this end a series of drawing and crafts workshops have been set up. Through their referral to a center, children can recover the models of order and the guidelines they have lost in their life in the street. The objective is to put an end to child street labor and convert it into schooling. It is not an easy task as there are many “attractions” in the street for these minors and for the adults exploiting them. Hence it is key to work with the whole family group. The San Roque Mobile Team is networked with government and private organizations inside and outside the Foundation, such as the San Martín de Porres Day Care Center in San Martín, where cases requiring referral are taken care of.
